Effective use of Social Media for Business
Social Media has seen nothing short of ballistic growth over the last few years… the rise of Facebook and Twitter to name but two. But how best can businesses tap into these huge communities? The traditional sales pitch for the most part just doesn’t work in the social space as people are there to socialise with friends, share photos, information or engage in discussions that are of interest to them.
It calls for a completely different approach and one that turns business on its head. In fact its both an opportunity and a challenge for businesses to go out into potential customers social groups, participate and engage and be in the minds of those potential customers at that point in the future when they might actually have need for purchasing services or products.
That’s just one angle on using social media for business. You could also use social media to communicate to existing customers or drive traffic to your site if done in the right way.
I came across this excellent pictorial layout of the Social Media landscape which I found most helpful from CMO’s Guide to the Social Media Landscape.
There are now so many social networks and ways you COULD be involved in the social media space online but the questions are ‘What do you want to achieve through social media?’ and ‘How do I achieve my goal?’ The above Social Landscape map which is download-able from CMO.com as a PDF, can help form at least the starting point of a strategy as it will help to focus your efforts in the right direction depending on your goals.
